Lt. Governor Tim Murray Speaks at United Way's 88th Annual Meeting
On June 9th over 225 people listened to Lt. Governor Tim Murray speak at United Way of Greater Plymouth County's 88th Annual Meeting. Lt. Governor Murray thanked United Way of Greater Plymouth County and the other United Ways of Massachusetts for their support of the administration's efforts to reform the state's system of addressing the problems of homeless families and homeless individuals. He specifically thanked United Way of Greater Plymouth County and its President & CEO Dennis Carman for their leadership for establishing and convening the South Shore Regional Network to End Homelessness. According to Lt. Governor Murray, "This United Way understands that we need to shift dollars away from emergency shelters and hotels and move them into prevention of homelessness and rapidly re-housing homeless families and individuals".
South Shore Regional Network to End Homelessness: A Successful Model for Massachusetts!
With an initial investment of $20,000 raised from last years United Way Campaign, the South Shore Regional Network to End Homelessness has attracted an additional $3.2 million in private foundation, state and federal funding. With United Way serving as convener, Joyce Tavon providing organization and direction as its Coordinator, and experienced community partners, including Father Bills & MainSpring, BAMSI, Quincy Community Action Programs and South Shore Community Action Council, the SSN has demonstrated positive outcomes since its launch in April of 2009! United Way Helps Reduce Health Costs by Distributing FamilyWize Drug Prescription Discount Cards
Since November of 2008 there have been almost 24,000 uses of the FamilyWize Discount Drug Prescription cards saving the residents of Plymouth County over 28% on their drug prescription expenses amounting to a savings of over $360,000!
