As a longtime resident of Plymouth, with a distinguished career in the banking industry, Ed Santos understands both the needs of the people here, and the resources available to help address those needs. As he has successfully championed economic development in the region, he has encouraged area businesses to be socially responsible for the communities in which they conduct their business. Mr. Santos is a strong supporter of many local charitable endeavors in the greater Plymouth area, and he currently serves as the Chair of the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce, a longstanding member of the Jordan Hospital Board of Directors, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Plymouth.
"I am very pleased to be able to serve in this key role for the United Way of Greater Plymouth County", exclaims Mr. Santos. "Our local United Way has listened to the needs of our neighbors, and now we must work together to generate resources to address those needs".
A thirty-six year resident of Brockton, Mayor James Harrington shares a similar love for the people and the businesses in the city of Brockton. In his second term, Mayor Harrington has deep roots in his community, serving on parent advisory councils for local schools at all levels, coaching youth athletics, and becoming very involved in local government, serving for many years on the Brockton City Council and serving as its President for several terms. Mayor Harrington has also been successful in the private sector working in the computer, insurance and financial industries over the years, including starting up and retaining ownership of his own insurance and financial advisory companies.
"I've agreed to be United Way's Campaign Co-chair because United Way knows how to create partnerships between the most effective and successful non profit organizations in our region in order to solve some of our most pressing problems" says, Mayor Harrington. "I want to do all I can to encourage our area businesses and residents to support United Way".
The United Way of Greater Plymouth County will officially launch this year's 87th Annual United Way Campaign at a Kick Off & Day of Caring at the corporate headquarters of Ocean Spray, Inc. in Middleboro/Lakeville on Friday, September 12th at 8am. United Way has asked area businesses to bring teams of volunteers to enjoy a continental breakfast compliments of Ocean Spray and then to head out in the Plymouth and Brockton areas to participate in a dozen "community service projects" at local charitable organizations supported by United Way. This year's United Way Campaign Goal is to raise $1,650,000!
