On Saturday, February 28, 2026, in combination with various partners, we successfully hosted a community screening of "Report Card: Danger of Failing" at Massasoit Community College’s Student Center. The event brought together over 120 attendees, including students, educators, parents, community leaders, advocates, and residents from across the Brockton area.
The purpose of the event was to spark meaningful dialogue around educational equity, systemic barriers, student outcomes, and the broader impact of academic failure on youth development and community safety. The screening served as both an educational experience and a call to collective action
- Post-screening discussions focused on:
- The connection between education and long-term economic mobility
- The school-to-prison pipeline
- The role of community partnerships in supporting student success
- Youth advocacy and civic engagement
The discussion was engaging, solution-focused, and reflective of the community’s commitment to educational reform and youth empowerment.
Community Impact / Mobilization
The event successfully:
- Engaged over 120 community members in a critical conversation about education and equity.
- Strengthened partnerships between community organizations and educational institutions.
- Elevated youth voices and reinforced the importance of early intervention strategies.
- Increased awareness of how academic challenges intersect with broader community issues, including violence prevention and social justice.
Participants expressed appreciation for creating a safe space to discuss difficult but necessary topics affecting Brockton’s youth.
This event exemplified the power of collaborative leadership. Sponsors and partners, including the Brockton Cultural Council, Community Connections & Family Center, NAACP, Safe Corners and North Easton Savings Bank, provided essential support that made the program accessible to the broader community.
The event reinforced a shared belief: when we invest in education, we invest in safer, stronger communities.
We have copies of this film here at the Family Center for additional viewing for youth and families!
