United Way Brings Community Together
to Celebrate its 96th Annual Meeting

BRIDGEWATER- On June 6th, over 250 guests met for United Way of Greater Plymouth County’s 96th Annual Meeting & Awards Celebration at Bridgewater State University.
“What an incredible gathering of generous and compassionate people who embody the spirit of this year’s theme, ‘Setting a Bigger Table!’ ” Dennis Carman, President & CEO of United Way of Greater Plymouth County said. “We are excited to embark on our 96th year of uniting people, ideas and resources to improve the lives of people in Greater Plymouth County.”
The event’s keynote address was given by Dave Kane, published author, radio talk show host and father of the youngest victim of the 2003 Station nightclub fire. He shared with the audience his uplifting presentation "41 Signs of Hope". In the presentation, Dave shared some of the different signs from his son Nicky communicating and spreading hope after his tragic passing in the fire.
United Way’s 96th Annual Meeting was also a celebration of this year’s United Way campaign to raise funds for urgent local needs. Enterprise Holdings received the Circle of Caring Chairman’s Award.
This year, a new award was announced: United Way’s Million Dollar Circle. The Million Dollar Circle Award celebrates campaigns whose long-standing support has resulted in achieving and exceeding $1 million in annual workplace giving. HarborOne Bank, Ocean Spray, and Rockland Trust were inducted into the circle.
Among other Circle of Caring Awardees were Rockland Trust for largest employee campaign, HarborOne Bank for largest corporate gift, Lynch & Lynch for largest campaign increase, Signature Healthcare for most significant nonprofit increase, and UPS for Corporate Champion for Change. Roberta Sousa of Rockland Trust, Eric Newcomb of HarborOne Bank, and Deb Prepas of HarborOne Bank received awards in recognition of their significant contributions to the United Way campaign.
Community Life Saver Awards were given in grateful recognition to four outstanding individuals performing life saving work in our community. These awards were given to Governor Charlie Baker, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, Bob Hollis of the Plymouth Recovery Center, and to Fabiola Hyppolite.
The United Way Community Spirit Award was given to Beth Chambers, Director of Catholic Charities South.
Joshua Brewington and Jessica Perrotta of The Family Center received the Courage Award in recognition of their demonstrated courage in overcoming life’s difficulties by utilizing area services funded by United Way of Greater Plymouth County.
